Youth Message

Whom are you clinging on to?

In this blog-post I would like to share a basic thought which, I believe, needs to be reverberated often in our walk with God. Even as I thought I was leading a Christ centered life, I came to realize quite lately that I was subconsciously wishing and holding on to a lot of worldly things. It grew up so much in me when these things which were absolutely not my necessities started to bother me. Although I knew this was not the will of God I was tempted to pray for them in my prayer time. Friends, it is absolutely mandatory for us to check our priorities in life and ensuring if they are from God so we don’t let satan get a chance to create his stronghold in our lives.

In Matthew 25: 1-13, we read about the parable of ten virgins, five of them who were ready with the oil for the lamp and the other five who were not. Although it was the desire of all the virgins to meet the groom, only the five had their heart, might and soul on the groom. It is easy to lose our focus in our busy and occupied lives; and the things which started as a mere time pass starts to take the center stage. Social media and keeping up with the Joneses is one of the easiest trap to fall prey into. 1 John 2:16 says, “For everything in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--comes not from the Father but from the world.” In the end we know what happened to the five foolish virgins – they were refused entry and the Lord Himself disowned them. Is there a loss which is greater than this? Surely not.

There are a lot of examples in the Bible where people perished for not having their priorities set right. A prime example is of Judas Iscariot. Although he was with Jesus day in day out, he believed that the thirty silver coins (which indeed was a fortune in those days) could save him better than the Messiah Himself. We read in Matthew 27:5 how he ended his life upon realization of his mistake.

Although some of our deeds might not have such tragic repercussions, it is so easy to drift apart from God when we don’t know what exactly God expects from us. We have to pray for God’s grace to guide us in every step of our life including the things we pray about. For a house which is not built on the rock (Jesus) is bound to fall. As the Scripture says in Matthew 16:26 and Mark 8:36, what good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul; we need to ensure that we always pray that our hearts be guarded from the whims and fancies of the world and for God’s will alone to be done in our lives.
